ABOUT OUR ADOPTION DONATION REQUESTS
We are constantly hearing “Why are your adoption “fees” so high”, or “Your fees are way too low, how do you expect to stay afloat with adoption fees so low”.
The simplest explanation is that we are not a public shelter supported by taxpayer dollars. A public shelter can ask for $95.00 adoption fees because they can run in the red perpetually because they have a bottomless pit of taxpayer money to rely on. The veterinarian contract alone at your typical county shelter is usually between $200,000-$500,000 a year! That’s just for the vet!!!!! We can’t afford to be in the red for hundreds of dollars on every adoption. We tend to be in the red for every adoption, we just try to keep that red number as low as possible.
Our donations are straightforward and simple. There are core expenses associated with every pet, which include boarding/kenneling, electricity for lighting, heating and cooling, cleaning, papers for kennels, cleaning supplies, hazardous waste removal etc.. Our customary vetting costs are listed below:

We quarantine(Kennel) our pets for at least 21 days before they can go home. The easiest way to see if our donation requests are reasonable is to take our list of core expenses to your vet and tally up his/her fees for the exact services. Now ask yourself… “Is it reasonable for Golden “S” Rescue to request what we do?”
Some pets come from a shelter with a lot of vetting already done. These pets tend to be in the low donation range ($200-$285). Others come from shelters that do no vetting at all or from the public. In this case, we pay the exact price you would pay your vet to have procedures and services done. We get no discounts and pay retail vet costs just like you.
Remember that these are basic vetting for perfectly healthy pets. It does not include treatment for special needs pets up for adoption like heartworm positive dogs, dogs with eye issues, dogs with illnesses that need treatment etc.. That just doubles or even triples our expenses for a pet.
We always ask the bare minimum donation. If you adopt one of our pets, and you are in a situation or position in life to where you can donate more than the requested donation PLEASE do. It is for a wonderful cause.
